The Youths of Agulu in Anambra state have condemned the unfortunate assassination attempt on former Presidential candidate in 2023 poll, Mr Peter Obi during his visit to Edo State.
They said attempt on Obi’s life would spell doom for the country, warning that Nigerian masses would surprise the government with a volcanic protest which the nation would not wish the consequences.
In a statement, titled, “Assassination attempt on Peter Obi in Edo” signed by Chairman, Sir Eric-Kenny Maduagwu (KSJI) and Secretary, Mr Egoh Chamberlain, the youths described the incident as unacceptable and underscored dimension of politics being introduced by the ruling party in the state.
They called on Edo state government to prove its innocence by launching full scale investigation to unravel perpetrators and ensure they were brought to book.
The statement partly reads, “While the whole country is still in shock and condemning the violent incident, its also important to highlight that the Edo state Government either directly or indirectly is responsible for this attack through the inciting comments they have made against His Excellency Mr Peter Obi in the recent past.
“The Edo State Government must now appreciate that once the government makes inflammatory comments, there are consequences, as some government sympathizers and loyalists can leverage on that to act, thinking that’s the interest of the government.
Demand of innocence
“The Government of Edo state must therefore prove their innocence.
“They must rise up to the occasion and launch a full scale investigation to unravel the perpetrators of this heinous act and ensure they are brought to book.
“We also call on the federal government and the Nigerian police force to intensify efforts on the protection of lives and properties, especially during this election period.
“It is also noteworthy that any attempt on the life of Peter Obi will spell doom for the country as the Nigerian masses will surprise the government with a volcanic protest and the whole nation will not wish the consequences.
“Long Live Agulu Long Live His Excellency Mr Peter Obi Long Live The Federal Republic of Nigeria. A new Nigeria is indeed Possible!”
