Group of women in Lilu community in Ihiala Local Government Area have declared that their children would not go to school on Mondays because of insecurity in the area.
The declaration followed Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s order that the Monday sit-at-home must end forthwith and that all schools, markets and other businesses operating within the State must resume activities on Mondays and failure to comply with the directive would attract stiff sanctions.
The women unanimously claimed their community has been abandoned to her fate since 2021 while hoodlums lurking in the bushes unleashed terror and mayhem on the town.
The women who spoke in unison in a viral video, dared the Governor to close the schools in the area, stressing that on no account will their children step out on Mondays to attend school nor engage in any commercial activities.
They regretted that the governor’s major concern, after securing his second term was to declare that all schools and markets would henceforth commence Monday activities amidst perennial sit-at-home order.
“Where was the governor when Lilu community was on fire? The governor’s children are far away abroad and he is asking us to make our own children sacrificial lambs to end Monday sit-at-home in the community.
“Lilu community is in danger and our children won’t come out on Mondays for any reason because the community has not been safe since 2021,” the women lamented in the video.
Investigations revealed that, aside Lilu, the Monday sit-at-home still persist in other parts of the Local Government Area as most schools do not operate on Mondays while commercial activities are halted til about 3pm.
