The Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has presented certificates of recognition to six newly-elected traditional rulers, highlighting the role of traditional institutions in promoting peace, unity, and development.

Presenting the certificates at the Light House, Awka,  Governor Soludo urged the monarchs to prioritize good governance, their people’s welfare, and community harmony.

The governor said the event reflected the state government’s commitment towards strengthening traditional leadership for community development.

Governor Soludo noted that the office of the traditional ruler was a creation of the town union constitutions in most communities which define the responsibilities of the traditional rulers.

He tasked the monarchs to abide by the constitutions of their respective communities to avoid the usual issues that arise between traditional rulers and presidents-general.

Governor Soludo noted  that the Public-Private-Community Partnership model is now effective, as many individuals have contributed significantly to their communities, with other states adopting similar approaches, especially under the amended local government laws.

Those who were recognized included: the traditional ruler of Azigbo in Nnewi South LGA, Igwe Justice Samuel Okoye,  traditional ruler of Isulo in Orumba South LGA, Igwe Clement Onwuka, and the traditional ruler of Amawbia in Awka South LGA, Igwe Uche Okonkwo.

Others are: Igwe Benson Chinedu Madubuko of Adazi-Ani in Anaocha LGA, Igwe Ejike Ugoagbala of Ora-eri, Aguata LGA and Igwe Ben Chibuzor Okekeife of Ndiowu.

The Governor on his facebook page wished them well. “Congratulations to our newly recognized traditional rulers.

“May your leadership continue to inspire and uplift our communities!
