Anambra LG poll: Obi, 2 others scale APGA screening, to battle incumbent

Chief Okechukwu Obi and two other contestants from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have emerged victorious at the party’s stakeholders screening exercise ahead of the Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state.

Obi from Obosi community and CEO, Royal Paradise Hotel & Suites clinched first position with 58 votes, while Hon. Arthur Ifeanyi Chiekwu, a former member of state House of Assembly who represented Idemili North state Constituency and Arinze Anagu both from Umuoji community came second and third with 47 votes and 7 votes respectively.

The trio had, during the keenly contested exercise, edged out Kenneth Chike who polled 3 votes, Francis Okeke and  Ukamaka Obi who polled one vote each.

With their victory, the trio are expected to compete with the incumbent Chairman of the Council area, Chief Stanley Nkwoka in the forthcoming in-house primary election.

APGA hierarchy in conjunction with Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the party leader can pick any of them as the candidate for the Chairmanship seat.

The exercise took place at Idemili North Local Government Council Hall, Ogidi.

The Secretary to State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor and his Works counterpart, Mr Ifeanyi Okoma were among other stakeholders present.

Congratulating the trio on their victory, the incumbent Council boss, Nkwoka described the election as credible, transparent, free and fair.

In his response, Obi, the highest vote scorer thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and urged them to prepare for the main primary election.
