Anambra tanker explosion kills two opposite FRSC office

Two persons on Sunday lost their lives while one was rescued with injuries in a tanker explosion in Ihiala, Anambra state.

The crash which occured opposite Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office along Ihiala-Onitsha road involved tanker and a motorcycle.

According to eyewitness, the tanker laden with inflammable content was speeding when it lost control and crashed into a barricade along the road.

“The tanker suddenly exploded and caught fire which affected the motorcyclist trailing behind the tanker.

“The explosion claimed the lives of the tanker driver and his conductor,” the witness added.

Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, FRSC, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno attributed the cause of the crash to speed and loss of control.

She commiserated with the deceased family, urging motorists to drive within recommended speed limit.

Asekhauno also adviced drivers to be observant of their environment and always pay full concentration to driving.

She said, “The fatal crash was between two vehicles: an unidentified driver of a commercial tanker with no registration number, and an unidentified driver of a motorcycle with no registration number.

Two of the three male adults died in the crash, while the other (bike driver) was rescued with injuries to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Iihiala.

“The FRSC rescue team from RS5.34 contacted the fire service, the FRSC and fire service were on the ground to combat the fire.

The fire has been totally put out as of the time of this report.”
