We gave late Musician, Ifunanya Nwangene prompt attention – FMC Abuja dismisses negligence allegation

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, says it gave the late musician, Ifunanya Lucy Nwangene, prompt medication attention when she was rushed into the facility.

Nwangene died after a snake bite on January 31, 2026.

The hospital in a press statement issued on Sunday, dismissed social media claims that anti-snake venom was unavailable at the hospital.

The statement signed by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Bioku Muftau, clarifies that Ms. Nwangene didn’t die due to lack of attention but from severe neurotoxic complications caused by the snake bite.

It describes her death as tragic one expressing condolences to her family.

The statement explains that the medical team responded immediately upon the patient’s arrival, providing emergency care that included resuscitation, intravenous fluids, intranasal oxygen and administration of polyvalent anti-snake venom.

It adds, “Anti-snake venom was administered, and all standard emergency protocols were followed,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Ms. Nwangene had already developed severe neurotoxic effects from the bite.

It regrets that the plan to transfer her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), could not be executed as her condition deteriorated suddenly before the transfer could take place.

“Despite intensive resuscitation efforts, including CPR, the medical team was unable to revive her.

“FMC Abuja strongly rejects allegations of negligence or inadequate response.”

It describes such claims as “unfounded and misleading.”

The hospital reiterated its commitment to quality care, transparency, and patient safety, urging the public to rely on verified sources of information rather than unconfirmed social media reports.

The hospital said it remains open to further inquiries and engagement while sustainably upholding professional medical standards.
