The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has urged residents to ignore unverified social media content and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation or through established emergency channels.
CP Orutugu made the call during an emergency closed-door meeting with Area Commanders and Tactical Commanders, following a security assessment on the resumption of full social, commercial, and official activities in the state on Mondays.
He said the police had identified a deliberate and recurring pattern of coordinated social media posts designed to spread fear, misinformation, and bigotry among the public.
“These misleading narratives aim to cause panic, undermine public confidence, and disrupt the peace currently enjoyed in the state,” he said.
The Commissioner, however, commended residents for remaining vigilant, discerning, and united, noting that Ndi Anambra have consistently refused to succumb to divisive narratives.
According to him, the resilience, cooperation, and timely sharing of credible information by residents continue to play a critical role in sustaining public order and safety.
CP Orutugu directed the immediate intensification of intelligence-led patrols, security surveillance, and proactive policing operations to forestall any threat to lives and property.
He reassured the public that the Command has put adequate security measures in place and urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and security-conscious.
