Non-indigenes

Non-indigenes resident in Nnewi North Local Government Area and surrounding communities have commended Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for what they described as significant improvements in security and infrastructure across the state.

The Special Adviser to the Nnewi North Mayor on Non-Indigenes Affairs, Chief Chinedu Igwe, made the commendation during an interaction with journalists in Nnewi.

Chief Igwe, who is also the President of the Imo General Assembly (IGA) in Nnewi, said Governor Soludo’s landslide victory in the last governorship election reflected broad acceptance of his administration by the people of Anambra State.

According to him, improved security remains the administration’s most outstanding achievement, having restored confidence among residents and enabled massive homecoming during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

He explained that the gains recorded in other sectors were made possible by a conducive environment created through improved security, which allowed residents and business owners to operate freely.

Chief Igwe congratulated the governor on his re-election which he attributed to his exceptional performance.

Uncommon record

He stated that the governor had set a record that would be difficult to surpass in the near future.

“Governor Soludo has undoubtedly positively impacted the people of the state in all ramifications.

“He has resurrected sectors abandoned by his predecessors and made them viable,” he said.

Chief Igwe said the governor had demonstrated strong commitment to youth development through the One Youth, Two Skills programme, which he said had trained and financially empowered over 10,000 youths during the governor’s first term.

He also highlighted investments in education and health, including the recruitment of teachers for primary and post-primary schools, improved funding of state-owned tertiary institutions, and the provision of free education in public schools from Primary One to Senior Secondary School Three.

“Pregnant women are enjoying free antenatal and postnatal care under the present administration.

“These human capital investments are in addition to the massive physical infrastructural development across Anambra State,” he added.

Ongoing road projects

Chief Igwe further commended the governor for ongoing road projects, particularly the construction of Adili Road in Nnewi, which he described as critical to commercial activities in the Nnewi market, as well as the dualisation of the Nnewi–Okija road linking Ihiala Local Government Area.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Suzuki Don International noted that Governor Soludo’s victory across all 21 local government areas during the election was partly due to the support of non-indigenes, especially in Nnewi, following the demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

He praised the governor for ensuring inclusiveness in governance, saying non-indigenes were not discriminated against in Anambra State, unlike in some other parts of the country.

Chief Igwe also lauded the Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Mr. Echezona Anazodo, for uniting non-indigenes in the council area and carrying them along in governance, which he said had strengthened their sense of belonging.

“I can say with all sense of responsibility that Governor Soludo is doing great in Anambra State.

“I appeal to other governors, especially in the South-East, to emulate the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria,” he concluded.
