Rotary International District 9142 convened its mid-year meeting in Onitsha, Anambra State, bringing together Rotarians from across the federation to assess progress, deepen fellowship and renew commitment to humanitarian service.
The gathering was a strategic stock-taking forum to evaluate achievements so far and fine-tune plans for the remaining part of the Rotary year.
Addressing members, District Governor, Kelechi Anyanwu, described the mid-year assembly as a moment of reflection on the past, present and future of the district.
He urged Rotarians to remain focused and proactive, stressing that the organisation must not rest on its achievements but continue to work diligently towards greater impact and relevance in communities.
In his remarks, District Governor-elect, Chibuzor Asogwa, reaffirmed Rotary’s role as a dependable development partner in Nigeria and beyond.
He highlighted Rotary’s long-standing leadership in the global fight against polio, noting that the organisation remains at the forefront of efforts to eradicate the disease worldwide.
He further disclosed that, with Rotary’s support, 16 medical doctors and health workers from India are currently at the Enugu School of Medical Science, Nsukka, Enugu State, providing free medical services, including surgeries, to patients.
A former District Governor, A. U. Nonyelu, described Rotary membership as both a privilege and an invaluable opportunity for personal and professional growth.

According to him, the organisation offers members a platform to connect with leaders across professions, participate in impactful local and global service projects, and develop strong leadership skills.
Chairman of the event’s Hospitality Committee, Odinaka Iyioke, said activities commenced with a candlelight procession in honour of the late Rotarian Chinedu Oguezi, Chairman of the Organising Committee, who passed away on 15 December 2025.
Rotary’s interventions
He also outlined Rotary’s wide-ranging interventions in Anambra State, including malaria prevention, disease control, conflict management, and tree planting across several local government areas.
Others include: distribution of textbooks to schools, renovation of dilapidated public schools and environmental protection projects in erosion-prone communities.
Earlier, one of the Rotarians, Kingsley Emeka, in a keynote lecture titled “Understanding the Recent Tax Implementation and How It Shapes Business,” explained that the new tax regime harmonises multiple taxes under a single framework.
He noted that individuals earning less than ₦800,000 annually are now exempt from paying tax, a development he said would ease the burden on low-income earners.
The event attracted past presidents, district governors and Rotarians from different states, with awards presented to outstanding members in recognition of their dedication and service.
