Red Cross Awka South unveils strategic reforms to build stronger, more effective division

Ezeobi

The Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra Branch, Awka South Division, Comrade Emmanuel Ezeobi, has announced a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at reinvigorating the division and repositioning it as a stronger humanitarian force.

Speaking to journalists in Amawbia, Ezeobi said the division is implementing well-thought-out strategic plans focused on strengthening governance, expanding its volunteer base, and improving internal control systems.

According to him, a key aspect of the reforms is the restructuring of the division to make it more active, effective, and visible to the public.

He explained that the leadership is also embracing technology and digital platforms to enhance communication and operations, while deliberately increasing youth participation in Red Cross activities.

Ezeobi stressed that the welfare of members would remain a top priority, noting that the division would also deepen partnerships with relevant organisations and intensify community engagement to expand its humanitarian impact.

He, however, identified the proposed relocation to a new office at the Awka South Local Government Secretariat as one of the division’s immediate challenges.

Ezeobi said once the relocation is completed, the division will proceed with the investiture of the Mayor of Awka South, Prince Chinedu Okafor, as patron, in line with Red Cross regulations.

Strategic appointment

As part of efforts to strengthen its strategic direction, the chairman announced the appointment of Mr. Chukwuma Emuwa as Volunteer Consultant. Ezeobi described Emuwa as a seasoned humanitarian, Red Cross awardee, researcher, and author of Experiences of Africans, African Americans, Nigerians and Igbos: Self Observation: Experiences and Mental Wellness.

He noted that Emuwa, a stakeholder of the Nigerian Red Cross, will volunteer his time and resources to ensure that teams, strategies, and resources are aligned with the organisation’s goals, core mission, and values.

Ezeobi further stated that the division is open to more volunteers, members, consultants, and well-meaning Nigerians willing to support its humanitarian services.

“The objective is to reposition the Awka South Division to play a critical and leading role as the main Red Cross division within Awka, the capital city of Anambra State,” he said.
