President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged to intervene and resolve the lingering discord between Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, in order to foster unity and accelerate development in the state.
The President made the promise in Makurdi during the wedding ceremony of Senator Akume’s son, Samuel, and his wife, Deborah.
He stressed that Benue State, with its large population—particularly the Tiv nation spread across states such as Taraba, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory cannot afford political disunity arising from disagreements between two prominent leaders.
Represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu appealed to the people to allow the cordial relationship that once existed between the two leaders to continue.
He noted that Senator Akume has paid his dues in public service and deserves respect for his contributions.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, in his remarks, acknowledged the support of the Federal Government for Benue State, urged the newlywed couple to love one another, and prayed for God’s blessings upon their marriage.
Speaking earlier, the father of the groom and SGF, Senator George Akume, called on the people of Benue State to sustain prayers for Governor Alia to succeed in delivering good governance.
He also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and all dignitaries and guests who attended his son’s wedding ceremony.
