The Anambra State Government has distanced itself from videos on social media depicting substandard and uninspiring Christmas decoration at a roundabout in the state wrongly attributed to it and has sparked unwarranted criticisms.
Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor in a statement said State Government was not responsible for the decoration, which he said was rather the initiative of a private citizen in the community.
He reiterated commitment of Soludo-led administration to its philosophy of fiscal prudence and responsible governance, urging public to disregard the report.
The statement reads in part, “We wish to categorically debunk these misleading narratives, dissociate the State Government from the controversial decoration, and set the record straight for the proper information of Ndi Anambra and the general public.
“It was the initiative of a private citizen in their community, executed without any involvement, approval, or endorsement from state authorities.
Removal order
“Upon becoming aware of the installation and the public dissatisfaction it generated, the government promptly directed its removal to maintain the aesthetic standards and dignity of our public spaces.
The Commissioner said the government has dismantled the decoration assuring citizens that it will not tolerate such unauthorised interventions moving forward.
“The Soludo administration remains steadfast in its philosophy of fiscal prudence and responsible governance.
“The State has always under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, intentionally adopted a strategic and cost-effective approach in public spending.
“During this festive season, we have focused our resources on adorning key locations that maximize visibility and impact, ensuring that taxpayer funds are not squandered on superficial frivolities.
“This deliberate strategy reflects our commitment to delivering value-driven governance that prioritises the welfare of our people over ostentatious displays.
“Thus, rather than indulging in wasteful expenditures, the Anambra State Government is delighting Ndi Anambra through the innovative, exciting ‘Onwa Dezemba’ package of events, a comprehensive festive programme launched on December 18, 2025, and running through January 4, 2026.
Array of activities
“This initiative features a diverse array of activities tailored to the interests and needs of various segments of society, including youth party, Christmas carol, children funfest, cultural performances, music concert, football match and family-oriented entertainment.
“These events foster unity, joy, and meaningful engagement, proving far more enriching in making Ndi Anambra and visitors alike enjoy the festive celebrations in Anambra State.
“Governor Soludo’s administration continues to place the people at the heart of its policies, channeling resources into significant projects that yield lasting benefits.
“We urge the public to disregard sensationalized misinformation over non-issues and channel their attention positively to celebrating the true spirit of the season through purposeful festivities.”
