It was celebration galore at the Onitsha Army Barracks, Anambra State following official unveiling of a newly constructed playground by the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) designed to promote relaxation, recreation and bonding among military children.

The unveiling ceremony, which took place at the Command Playground within the barracks, was performed by the Commanding Officer, 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Onitsha, Lieutenant Colonel Eric Kpamber.

Speaking during the unveiling, Kpamber reflected nostalgically on his childhood days in the barracks, recalling that there were no purpose-built recreational facilities for children at the time.

“This experience inspired my decision to go beyond routine duty by providing a befitting playground where children within the barracks could play safely and happily,” he said.

While revealing that the facility would also benefit families, the commanding Officer noted that mothers naturally prefer to remain close to their children during playtime.

He further listed equipment in the modern recreational facilities to include elevated centre stage, water fountain, basketball court, chess-playing area and various children’s playground equipment catering to all age groups.
