Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has described human rights as sacred and fundamental to building a just and progressive society.
Soludo made the assertion in a statement in Awka on Wednesday to mark International Human Rights Day.
The day which is commemorated every Dec. 10, had the theme – ‘Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials’.
International Human Rights Day highlight the need to protect rights such as access to clean water, education, healthcare, and freedom of expression.
The Governor’s Wife said that every individual deserves the right to live in safety, succeed and thrive without fear or intimidation.
She stressed that understanding and protecting human rights were essential to making society stronger.
She added that peaceful coexistence depended largely on how people treated one another.
According to her, differences in race, background, gender and beliefs should serve as a source of unity rather than division.
“No one deserves to live in a society governed by fear, alienation and extremism,” she said.
Soludo emphasised that every person, regardless of cultural, political or religious differences, was entitled to full human dignity and fairness, describing such rights as non-negotiable.
