Soludo mourns Obafemi Awolowo’s grand-son’s demise

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr. Segun Awolowo Jnr, who died on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the age of 62.

The Governor extended heartfelt condolences to the Awolowo family, as well as to his friends, colleagues, and associates.

In condolence message released by Christian Aburime, Soludo’s Press Secretary, the Governor described Mr. Awolowo as a distinguished lawyer, committed public servant, and a leading voice in Nigeria’s investment and export sector.

He praised him as a national patriot whose work and integrity stood out in every assignment he undertook.

Governor Soludo noted that as a grandson of the revered Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Segun Awolowo Jnr upheld the values of honour, service, and leadership for which the Awolowo family is known.

He further highlighted Mr. Awolowo’s significant contributions to national development and his relentless commitment to strengthening trade and investment across Africa.

Reflecting on his career, the Governor commended Mr. Awolowo’s impactful tenure as Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council from 2013 to 2021.

Governor Soludo acknowledged his efforts in promoting entrepreneurship, supporting innovation, and advancing policies that stimulated Nigeria’s economic growth.

He also recalled Mr. Awolowo’s unanimous election in July 2021 as President of the National Trade Promotion Organisations for ECOWAS member states—an honour that underscored his dedication to elevating Nigeria’s profile in regional and global trade.

His passing, the Governor said, is a profound loss to the nation and the African continent.

Governor Soludo sympathizes with the Awolowo family, the government and people of Ogun State on his passing.

He prays for the peaceful repose of his soul and for comfort and strength for the loved ones he has left behind.
