The disability community in Enugu State has applauded Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for inaugurating the Enugu State Disability Commission, describing the move as a landmark step toward institutionalizing disability inclusion and social justice in the state.
The commission was inaugurated on Friday, 14 November 2025, by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, who represented the governor at the event held at Government House, Enugu.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Enugu State Chapter, Comrade Onyebuchi Mba, the association praised Governor Mbah for keeping his promise and demonstrating unwavering commitment to inclusive governance.
“Governor Mbah has reaffirmed his dedication to inclusivity and accessibility. He is a governor who means what he says and says what he means,” Mba said.
“His administration has achieved in a short time what many could not accomplish throughout their tenure.
“This inauguration is a testament to his commitment to the welfare and dignity of persons with disabilities.”
Disability inclusion
JONAPWD also commended the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Ngozi Enih, for her relentless efforts in championing disability inclusion in government policies and programmes.
According to Mba, her leadership remains “an inspiration and a voice for the voiceless.”
The association expressed gratitude to civil society organizations, organizations of persons with disabilities, media partners, and other disability advocates for their continued support in the long quest for a sustainable, inclusive institutional framework in the state.
Comrade Mba equally congratulated the newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Disability Commission, Mr. Jude Eze, the Secretary, Mrs. Juliet Nkiru Okonkwo, and other board members.
He described their appointments as well-deserved. He called on all stakeholders to collaborate effectively to advance the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities.
“This marks a giant stride for the entire disability community in Enugu State,” Mba stated.
“We are confident that Governor Mbah’s administration will continue to prioritize disability welfare.
“Indeed, this is a step toward disruptive innovation for sustainable inclusive development.”
He reaffirmed JONAPWD’s readiness to work closely with the commission and the government to deepen reforms and establish enduring structures that protect and empower citizens with disabilities.
