AIG warns against fueling inter-agency rivalry

Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 13 Awka, AIG Abayomi Peter Oladapo has stressed the importance of genuine communication and collaboration among security agencies ahead of Saturday’s election.

He stated this while hosting the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Commandant, Maku Olatunde who was on familiarization visit at the Nigeria Police Zone 13 Headquarters in Ukpo, Idemili North local government area of the state.

He condemned the tendency of junior personnel to fuel inter-agency rivalry and urged senior officers to strengthen their supervision in instilling spirit of esprit de corps among the ranks.

“Gone are the days when one security agency can claim superiority over another; security is not something one individual agency can effectively carry out.

“Therefore, there must be synergy and cooperation to ensure the good people of this country conduct their activities free from the few who are making life unbearable for law-abiding citizens,” he said.

Abayomi further underscored the place of robust intelligence sharing among security agencies tasked with delivering safe, secure, and credible election, emphasizing the need for personnel to ensure their own safety during operations.

Corrupt infiltration

Acknowledging the unfortunate reality of possible infiltration of corruption in any organization, the AIG encouraged security agencies to step up efforts in identifying and removing corrupt personnel from the system to create safer and more secure workplace.

He further emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism in resolving disputes between security agencies.

Earlier, the NSCDC boss restated its commitment to securing lives, electoral infrastructure, and critical national assets while ensuring a safe voting environment through robust collaboration with sister security agencies.

He explained that his visit was to interface with the AIG and express his appreciation for the support extended to the NSCDC in executing its mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, particularly in the context of Anambra election security management.

He underscored that the success of the upcoming election hinges on enhanced synergy among security agencies and effective collaboration with stakeholders and citizens.
