Anglican Diocese of Aguata, Anambra state has denied endorsing any gubernatorial candidate for the forthcoming November 8 election in the State.

In a statement by its Director of Media and Communications, Abuchi Nwozor, the Church described as false and misleading viral photographs on social media claiming the Diocese, under the episcopacy of the Rt Rev Samuel Ezeofor has endorsed a particular candidate.

Insisting the Diocese has not, and will not align itself with any political party or candidate, the Diocese urged the public to disregard the images, describing them as deliberate attempt to drag the Church into partisan politics.

The statement warned politicians against desperation for power, advising them to focus on public interest and well-being of the masses, rather than engaging in manipulative tactics.

The church assured that the Church would continually pray for peace and transparency in the electoral process.

“What the Diocese of Aguata earnestly desires is a free, fair, and credible election,” the statement said.

The joint declaration co-signed with the Diocesan Clerical Synod Secretary, Rev Canon Uzochukwu Mojekwu further called on political actors to refrain from using the Church as a platform to score political points.
