Bayelsa Gov. Douye Diri resigns from PDP, 22 lawmakers follow suit

Bayelsa State Governor, Sen. Douye Diri, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor’s resignation, announced on Tuesday, Oct. 15, marks a major shake-up in the state’s political landscape.

In a related development, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and 22 lawmakers have also tendered their resignation from the PDP.

Diri’s departure comes barely 24 hours after Enugu State Gov. Peter Mbah, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Although Diri has yet to make an official statement on his next political move.
