Anambra Guber: INEC reports 2.8 million registered voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially presented the updated Voters’ Register to political parties.

This was in preparation for the Nov. 8, governorship election in Anambra.

Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Anambra, Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, made the presentation at the INEC office in Awka.

Agwu announced that the updated register will be used for the conduct of the election. 

She revealed that the number of registered voters in the state currently stands at 2.8 million.

“I want to assure stakeholders that INEC has made all necessary preparations to ensure a free, fair and credible process,” she said 

Dr. Lawrence Bayode, Director ICT at INEC headquarters in Abuja, made a presentation.

It was titled  – ‘Technology Innovations for the Conduct of the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election’. 

Bayode who was represented by Mr Emeka Nnaji highlighted the role of technological tools such as the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV)

He noted that their deployment has significantly enhanced transparency and curbed issues like voter fraud and impersonation.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, commended INEC for successfully conducting elections across all polling units in Anambra South Senatorial District during the recent by-election. 

He expressed confidence that the commission is well-prepared to deliver a credible and transparent governorship election on Nov. 8
