The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 1, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
This was in a statement released on Monday, by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations.
He said the decision does not diminish the importance of the milestone.
He added that the government remains committed to commemorating the anniversary with “dignity and enthusiasm.”
“All other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary will remain in effect,” the statement clarified.
The government expressed regret over any inconvenience the cancellation may cause.
It also extended its appreciation to Nigerians, the diplomatic community and invited guests for their understanding and continued support.
It also called on citizens to support the reform initiatives of President Bola Tinubu, aimed at building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
