Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has returned to the global spotlight with a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships.

The world record holder clocked 12.28 seconds to finish just behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who claimed gold in 12.24 seconds, while America’s Grace Stark took bronze in 12.34 seconds.

Amusan showed consistency and determination throughout the competition. She opened with a 12.53s run in the heats before storming to victory in the semi-finals with 12.36s (-0.2).

In a fiercely contested final, she went head-to-head with some of the world’s best hurdlers, including Stark, Masai Russell of the U.S., Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, Nadine Visser of the Netherlands, Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, and Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska.

The silver marks Amusan’s first World Championships medal since her historic gold in 2022 and comes after a difficult period that saw her narrowly miss the podium in Budapest 2023.

It is also Nigeria’s first medal at the World Championships in three years, reigniting hope for more glory on the global athletics stage.
