Arrangements are on top gear for successful staging of the maiden edition of Omabala Day celebration.
Chairman, Omabala Union, Dr Chike Obidigbo disclosed this during the inauguration of the media and Publicity sub-committee of the cultural fiesta.
Members of the Publicity subcommittee consist seasoned journalists and media practitioners from the six council areas that formed Omabala union.
The Omabala day celebration, which is a cultural festival will hold at Otuocha Township Stadium in next month.
Speaking at the event, Obidigbo charged members of the Media and Publicity sub-committee to give the event the necessary publicity.
He described culture as the identity and the way of life the people, noting that the rich cultural heritage of the people of Omabala must be showcased to the world.
According to him, the event will serve as a rallying point and veritable means of bringing together people from the six council areas of Omabala, namely, Anambra East and West, Oyi, Ayamelum, Dunukofia and Awka North.
Unity of purpose
Obidigbo, a renowned philanthropist and industrialist called for unity of purpose among the people of Omabala.
He described the Media and Publicity sub-committee as key to the ongoing effort to unite Omabala people.
According to him, the people of Omabala are yet to fully harness the human and natural resources that abound in the area.
Chairman, main Organising Committee of the 2025 Omabala cultural festival, Mr Elochukwu Kwacham urged his committee not to leave any stone unturned in a bid to sensitize the people on the need to speak with one voice.
“I appeal to my members to ensure activities of Ndi Omabala especially, the forthcoming Omabala day celebration is given the required publicity in the electronic, print and social media.”
Kwacham said Ndi Omabala should not be relegated to the background on issues concerning them, especially the harnessing of the natural resources that abound in the area.
“The cultural fiesta will among other things feature traditional dances and display by masquerades representing communities as well as attracting important personalities from all parts of Anambra state,” he said.
It would be recalled that Ndi Omabala constituted a caretaker Committee headed by Obidigbo to revive the dwindling fortunes of the union.
The new administration under Obidigbo popularly called Osisioma has created committees, including a 7-point agenda to give the people of the area a sense of belonging and necessary measures now in place to take the union to the next level.
