‘Stomach Infrastructure’ means meeting basic needs, not dashing money – Soludo

Gov. Chukwuma Soludo on Anambra at 34

Gov. Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to “stomach infrastructure” as a strategic investment in the people’s welfare, not a distribution of handouts or political patronage.

He spoke at a press briefing in Awka to mark Anambra State’s 34th anniversary.

Soludo clarified the often-misunderstood term ‘Stomach Infrastructure’.

He emphasised that it refers to the government’s duty to provide essential services that directly improve the quality of life for its citizens.

“Stomach infrastructure is not about handing out cash or appointing special advisers.

“It is about ensuring that every resident of Anambra has access to the basic necessities required to live with dignity and rise out of poverty,” he said.

To support this vision, the Governor outlined several key initiatives under his administration:

“Distribution of 2.6 million palm and coconut seedlings to over 180,000 households to boost agriculture.

“Provision of free education in public schools, free antenatal and delivery services in state hospitals.

“Recruitment of over 1,000 health workers and 8,115 teachers and

Implementation of a new ₦82,000 minimum wage.

“Clearance of pension arrears and gratuities owed to state and local government retirees and empowerment of over 5,000 youths.

“Completion of over 600km of roads across the state to improve rural and urban connectivity.

“True development is about building a society where public resources create long-term value.

“This is the vision behind Anambra at 34—our commitment to hard work, integrity, and shared prosperity,”he said.

Soludo also highlighted achievements in security, urban regeneration, economic development, governance, and infrastructure.

He thanked Anambra residents for their support and urged collective efforts to sustain the state’s progress.

“Together, let us continue to build the Anambra of our dreams.

” I remain your humble servant, dedicated to delivering real dividends of democracy,” he said
