The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an alert over counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets circulating in Nigeria.

According to a notice on NAFDAC’s website, Promasidor Nigeria Ltd, the manufacturer of Cowbell Milk, reported the presence of fake products.

It said the fake product mimicked the brand’s packaging, trademark, and NAFDAC registration number.

The counterfeit version uses outdated packaging last seen in September 2023.

NAFDAC highlighted key differences: genuine Cowbell sachets are creamy with updated “Our Creamy Goodness” packaging,

laser-printed batch details, proper coding and automated sealing.

In contrast, the fake products have poor-quality contents, old packaging, ink-printed batch numbers, incorrect coding locations and manual sealing.

The agency warned that consumption of the counterfeit product poses serious health risks.

Some of the health risks are  foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage or even death.

It’s more risky for vulnerable groups like infants, pregnant women and the elderly.

Zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to conduct surveillance and remove the fake products.

NAFDAC urged distributors, retailers and consumers to verify product authenticity and report suspicious items via 0800-162-3322 or sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.

Adverse reactions can also be reported through NAFDAC’s website or via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng
