The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) is partnering with Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, to strengthen early warning systems and advance climate resilience efforts across the State.

The partnership was disclosed during a courtesy visit to NiMet Headquarters Abuja by ADSU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Augustine Clement.

In a welcome address, NiMet’s Director-General, Professor Charles Anosike, highlighted the crucial role of meteorological data in disaster risk reduction, especially in agrarian and flood-prone communities.

“The location of ADSU—close to key hydrological infrastructure like Kiri Dam—makes it an ideal partner for climate research, data collection, and community-focused early warning initiatives,” Professor Anosike said.

The Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), restated NiMet’s commitment to helping the university establish a weather station, support academic exchanges, and collaborate on climate-smart research.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will outline responsibilities on data generation, maintenance, and community engagement is underway.

In his remarks, Professor Clement praised NiMet’s impact on national development and expressed ADSU’s readiness to contribute to research that supports environmental sustainability and mitigates the impacts of climate change in vulnerable areas of the state.
