Nigeria pulled off a dramatic second-half comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 and claim their 10th TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
Morocco took an early 2-0 lead at the Stade Olympique in Rabat, with goals from Ghizlane Chebbak (12′) and Sanaâ Mssoudy (24′), leaving Nigeria stunned at halftime.
The Super Falcons turned the tide after a VAR-awarded penalty, converted by Esther Okoronkwo in the 60th minute.
Okoronkwo then set up Folashade Ijamulusi for the equalizer in the 71st minute.
In the 88th minute, a clever set-piece saw Okoronkwo assist Joe Echegini for the winner, completing a stunning turnaround.
Despite late Moroccan pressure, Nigeria held on to secure victory.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and captain Rasheedat Ajibade were named Goalkeeper and Player of the Tournament, respectively.
Nigeria had earlier knocked out defending champions South Africa 2-1 in the semi-final.
