The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka has commissioned various solar-powered projects initiated to improve the living conditions of students on campus.
The Vice Chancellor performed the ceremony in company of members of the University’s Governing Council.
She explained that the management conceived the projects to improve the welfare of students residing in the University hostels.
“These projects reflect our commitment towards enhancing the welfare and living conditions of our students who reside on campus.
“We expect they will aid your academic pursuit because you can put the distraction of epileptic power supply behind you.”
The Acting VC charged the students especially the hostel leadership to safeguard and carefully manage the facilities.
This, she noted would keep them lasting and enhance the productive capacity of students.
VC’s motherly love extolled
Pro-chancellor and Governing Council Chairman, Mr. Olugbenga Kukoyi commended the motherly love and concern of the VC for students’ welfare.
Kukoyi was represented by an external member of the Council, Mrs. Amina Elizabeth Yakowa.
He agreed that the solar projects would enhance the student’s living conditions as well as better their academic pursuit.
Speaking on behalf beneficiaries, the President of the Students Hostel, Odinaka Elusiuba thanked Prof. Arinze-Umobi for her motherly love and disposition towards the students living within the university community.
“All the students across the hostels are very grateful and appreciative of your kind gesture.
“These projects will no doubt make life easier for all of us on campus.
The solar-powered projects commissioned include: solar-powered bore hole system for efficient water supply and solar-powered charging points.
Others are solar-powered lighting points and solar powered free internet services, all domiciled at the five hostels within the campus.
They are the Basil Oli Hostel, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Hostel, Dora Akunyili Hostel, Stella Okoli Hostel and Oby Okoli Hostel.
