FG moves to scrap 7% import surcharge

President Tinubu

The Federal Government has announced plans to ease the cost of imports.

This will be done by eliminating the seven per cent surcharge currently imposed on goods entering the country

Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, made the disclosure during a town hall meeting.

The meeting was on the B’Odogwu clearance system.

He revealed that the proposal to remove the surcharge is already undergoing legislative review.

According to Adeniyi, the move is part of broader efforts to streamline import procedures.

It would also reduce costs for businesses, and boost trade facilitation across the country.
