Race to produce late Sen Ifeanyi Ubah’s replacement for Anambra South Senatorial District at the red chamber of the National Assembly got underway over the weekend as political parties produced their standard bearers.
Barr Donald Chidi Amangbo emerged the candidate for African Democratic Congress (ADC) through an affirmative vote generally accepted by the delegates.
In his acceptance speech, Amangbo said, “We shall storm Anambra South senatorial district. We all know that representation is about the people.
“As a Senator, I wish to assure you that the entire Anambra South district will gain bountifully from my representation.
Former Anambra governorship aspirant, Azuka Okwuosa, clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.
Okwuosa, a renowned politician and former local Government chairman, commissioner and Secretary-General of the South-East Development Initiative, defeated Barr Obinna Uzor to emerge victorious.
In the primary which was conducted by 7-man committee from the party’s National Secretariat, chaired by Chief Henry Ikoh, Okwuosa polled a total of 470 votes while Barr Uzor got 57 votes.
NNPP, YPP, LP
Also, New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) primary for senatorial poll produced Barr. Peter Onyedika Ekwueme as the flag bearer.
The Young Progressives Party (YPP), the party platform used by Sen Ifeanyi Ubah on his journey to the Senate produced Hon Azubuike Tindel Okoli who defeated Prince SamBen Nwosu.
Labour Party (LP) primary between Hon. Chuma Nzeribe a former member of House of Representatives from Ihiala.LGA and Hon. Emeka Anagwu from Nnewi South LGA was ongoing at the time of filing this report.
APGA primary holds today
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has scheduled her primary for Monday, July 21 to choose her standard bearer.
Top contenders for the APGA ticket are Former member, House of Representatives, Engr Chris Azubogu, member of House of Representatives,
Pascal Agbodike, Chief Ebuka Onukwo, Chief Ikechukwu Onwuegwu, Chief Emma Nwachukwu and Patrick Ubajiaka.
Recall that Azubogu and Chief Chris Uba were the standard bearers for APGA and PDP respectively in 2023 National Assembly election.
