A 150 kVA solar power and 430 kWh battery storage has been inaugurated at the Abia State Specialist and Diagnostic Center, Umuahia.
The initiative is designed to power health facilities in the state with solar power and reduce reliance on national grid.
Also inaugurated in Umuahia is the Abia Integrated Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Accelerated Programme (AIWAP) to reduce open defecation in the state
.
At the launch of the pilot project under the Abia Integrated WASH Accelerated Programme at Okigwe Park, Governor Alex Otti disclosed that nine similar projects are ongoing in Aba and Umuahia.

Governor Otti, noted that the campaign for sanitation andend to open defecation will be ineffective without making provision for alternative.
In an address, the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr. Ikechukwu Monday said first ten facilities of this would be built across the state,
Mr Monday explained that the friendly facility projects sited at Okigwe Park Umuahia would be replicated in strategic locations in the state.
The solar assisted facility has 3 toilets for male and female And 1 washroom for male and 1 washroom for females as well as extending water supply for people around this environment.
