Anambra State Government has condoled with family of former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Onitsha Federated Chapel, Mr Okechukwu Akaneme over his sudden death.
Dr Law Mefor, state’s Commissioner for Information made this known in a condolence message to the family.
Mefor regretted that Akaneme’s death resulted from the scuffle between him and the police attached to the Anambra State Waste Management Authority.
He announced N40 million donation by state government towards his medical bills.
According to him, in demonstration of the government’s commitment to supporting him during such time of need.
“On behalf of Anambra government, I extend our deepest condolences to you on the passing of your beloved husband, father, and pillar of the community.
“We acknowledge Mr. Akaneme’s immense contributions to the development of our society.
“He was a former President of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce and chairman, NUJ, Onitsha Federated Chapel.
“The Anambra State Government offered N40 million towards his medical bills
.”As you navigate this difficult period, please know that you are not alone. The state Government stands in solidarity with you.
“The police are still investigating the matter, the government will continue expressing its compassion for the family.
“May God grant you the strength to bear this loss.
“And may Mr. Akaneme’s legacy continue to inspire us to build a better and more compassionate society.”
