Labour Party youth leader in Anambra state Comrade Ekene Nnadi has appealed to the Commissioner of Police to caution his officers and other state-sponsored security operatives against being used as political tools.
Nnadi’s appeal followed alleged unlawful arrest and detention of the party’s Chairman in Njikoka Local Government Area, Charles Nwazojie on orders of operatives of Agunechemba security outfit.
He specifically warned the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Abagana to desist from any further acts of unlawful arrest, saying the party would no longer tolerate such actions.
“We appeal to the Commissioner of Police to caution his men and other state-sponsored outfits not to serve as willing tools in the hand of the state government to intimate, harass or oppress the opposition.
“We also caution Abagana DPO because we will not allow such unlawful arrest of their Njikoka local government Chairman again.
“In a democratic society, it’s essential for law enforcement agencies to remain impartial and respectful of citizens’ rights, including their right to participate in politics and express their opinions.
“The Commissioner of Police should indeed investigate the allegations of unlawful arrest and intimidation by the DPO and take disciplinary action.
“This will help to build trust between the police and the community, and ensure that the rights of all citizens are protected.”
