Anambra Police rescue kidnap victim, kill hoodlum in shootout

Anambra State Police Command has killed a hoodlum in a gun duel in Aguata Local government area of the state.

Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed this on Sunday that the kidnapped victim is a 26-year- old woman.

She was rescued by Operatives of the Police-led Joint Security Force from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Aguata during night visibility patrol.

He said arms and other incriminating items were recovered during the operation that lasted for about forty minutes.

“In the late hours of July 12, operatives of the Police-led Joint Security Force from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Aguata were on a night visibility patrol around Amaokpala.

“They encountered a group of armed hoodlums and engaged them in a gun duel.”

“During the operation, the operatives successfully rescued a female kidnapped victim and neutralised one of the armed criminals.

“They recovered the following items: one pump-action gun, 11 (eleven) live cartridges, one ash-coloured Toyota Camry Sedan with Reg. No: Lagos-EPE-208-FK, one Police belt.

“Others are a carton of Chelsea sachet alcoholic drink, a Zenith Bank ATM card, an axe, a Tecno mobile phone, a packet of cigarettes, charms and cash sum of ₦2,700.

“The hoodlums allegedly opened fire upon sighting the patrol team.

“The operatives tactically returned fire, leading to a gun duel that lasted approximately forty (40) minutes.

“One suspect was fatally wounded and later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital. His body was deposited in the morgue for preservation.

“Meanwhile, the rescued victim has since been debriefed and provided with necessary medical attention, ahead of a safe reunion with her family.”

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu commended the gallant efforts of the operatives.

He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to making Anambra State inimical to all forms of criminal activity.
