Nasarawa boosts education, recruits over 6000 new teachers

Nasarawa State will recruit 6,200 qualified teachers for both primary and secondary schools, as part of efforts to improve the state’s educational standards.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba, disclosed during a press briefing in Lafia.

According to him, the State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has already approved the recruitment.

4,700 of the total number will be deployed to primary schools under the State Universal Basic Education Board, while 1,500 will be assigned to secondary schools across the state.

The Aide assured that the recruitment exercise will be transparent and strictly merit-based.

This is to build public confidence and achieve optimal outcomes in the state education sector.

Security challenge

Ahemba also spoke on the recent security challenges in the region, following attacks by suspected herdsmen on Yelwata Community in Benue State.

“Several residents from border communities between Benue and Nasarawa fled their homes and are currently taking refuge in public primary schools within Keana Local Government Area.

He explained that Nasarawa and Benue State governments, in collaboration with security agencies, are working to ensure their safe return for resumption of academic activities in affected schools.

He added that Nasarawa State Government has delivered relief materials to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in various camps across the area.
