Nigeria Olympics Committee, NOC’s Women’s Commission has accommodated female officials in its 2nd National Sports Seminar
The Women’s Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has officially announced the kick-off of the 2nd edition of its landmark Women in Sport seminar series.
A statement by the NOC Public Relations Officer, Tony Nezianya, says the commission has significantly expanded its horizon to include referees, umpires, and technical officials in this year’s programme.
To achieve inclusivity, Women Commission has opened participation to female stakeholders – administrators and coaches to the newly-included technical personnel.
It explains that the seminar which holds in series across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, will focus on “Capacity Building in Sports.”
“The seminar series will commence in the North West zone from July 9 to July 11, 2025, at the prestigious Business School, CBN Centre of Excellence, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
“North Central leg follows immediately from July 14 to July 16, 2025, at the University of Jos.”
Presentations by seasoned administrators
The statement confirms that seasoned sports administrators, coaches, and technical experts will deliver lectures and facilitate workshops for the participants.
It describes the initiative as the cornerstone of NOC’s strategy to elevate women into leadership roles within the nation’s sporting structure.
“These seminars are a critical pathway to achieving that goal, aligning with the global push by bodies like the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for greater gender equity in sports governance.
“The schedule for the remaining geopolitical zones – North East, South South, South East, and South West – August 2025, with specific dates and venues to be announced shortly.”
The statement adds that Women’s Commission invites all women occupying any role in the Nigerian sports sector to seize the opportunity for professional development.
“The Secretary of the Commission, Mrs Kemi Obidahunsi, a staff member of the Committee, is the coordinating officer-in-charge of the project.
“The president of the NOC, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel would declare open the event,” the statement declares.
