Rotary International Club, Onitsha Metropolis has conferred professional award of excellence on the Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr Chioma Awuzie.
This is in recognition and appreciation of her outstanding leadership and contributions to the education sector.
The organization also bestowed Chief Ben Ekwerekwu, former APGA House of Assembly aspirant with a Community Service Award.
Outgoing President of the Club, Oby Arinze, presented the awards during the Club’s official hand-over ceremony at 1890 Residence, Onitsha.
Arinze said the honour was part of efforts to recognize individuals who have made significant societal contributions.
While noting that Rotary was committed to acknowledging excellence across various sectors, she explained that Dr Awuzie was awarded based on her superlative performance within 100 days in office.
She praised the Rector for her dedication, hard-work, achievements and positive impact in the polytechnic, adding that she had impressed with her leadership capacity.
Arinze said her eventful tenure as the president of the Club witnessed lots of achievements and success stories.
Tenure of milestones
She highlighted key milestones in service, membership growth and community development.
“It is indeed a glorious end to a beautiful beginning. The tenure of my leadership was filled wonderful opportunities.
“We explored endless opportunities to offer undiluted services to humanity. We reached out to humanity with a touch of kindness”
In her response, the Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr Chioma Awuzie, expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a motivation to do more.
She called on women to always manifest their impact wherever they find themselves.
In his acceptance speech, in-coming President of the Club, Dr Onochie Ntomchukwu, expressed gratitude for the confidence bestowed upon him and his vision for a dynamic, inclusive and impactful club.
Highlight of the event was the official handover of leadership baton from Arinze to Ntomchukwu.
