Anambra state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu has solicited greater cooperation from the Management of the Federal Polytechnic Oko following indiscriminate shooting in the area that claimed lives and injured others.
Orutugu made the call while receiving the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Mrs Chioma Awuzie and Chairman, Heads of Federal Establishments in the State, Mr. Chijoke Okechukwu, in his office at the State Police Command, Awka.
He regretted the unfortunate incident of 19th June 2025 perpetrated by armed criminals operating with motorcycle and black Lexus 350 SUV without plate number.
Eyewitness account said they started shooting indiscriminately at the Total junction wounding four persons including a lady.
“The hoodlums abducted two other people at the Tipper junction before they fled the scene.
The CP’s meeting with the FedPoly Oko management demonstrates a proactive approach to security and community engagement,” Orutugu said.
“We seek greater cooperation from the Management of the Polytechnic to help us serve them better,” he added.
In their separate responses, the Poly Rector and Head of Federal Establishments thanked the Police for their prompt response at the scene of the incident as it prevented further loss of life and properties.
They pledged to assist the Police to step up surveillance and provide necessary information for security agencies especially in the ongoing investigation of the incident.
“We intend to jointly develop plans and address specific security challenges in Oko and especially around the Polytechnic and other Federal Government facilities in the State,” they said.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigations Department, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department and other senior Officers attended the meeting.
The highlight of the meeting included the presentation of Gift to the Rector by the CP.
