The Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ike, has called for the establishment of state and community police to stem rising criminality in localities.

Ike made the call on Monday in Enugu at a Pre-Synod Press Conference of the forthcoming 2nd Session of the 19th Synod of the Diocese.

The cleric, who decried the carnage going on in many parts of the country especially in Benue, noted that “it is time to take decisive action against insecurity.”

He called on President Bola Tinubu and other leaders to save the nation from hopelessness occasioned by the rising insurgency and widespread insecurity in the country.

The cleric also urged Tinubu to sack non-performing service chiefs and heads of other para-military agencies.

“I call for effective release and use of drones, helicopters and jets meant for the fight against insecurity in order to justify the huge amounts spent in procuring them.”

Ike described Nigeria as one of the richly natural and human capital blesssed countries in the world.

He however regretted that corruption and greed had denied the country growth and development.

“Other countries especially the Asia countries that discovered natural resources as we did, have used their natural resources to develop their countries.

“Today, these countries have become centre of attraction and envy,” he said.

On the Synod, the cleric noted that the Synod with the theme: “Living By Every Word of God” would provide a platform for a revival that would change the country for good.

He said that the Synod would deliberate on challenges facing the Church and seek for the way forward.

“The Bishop Charge of the Synod will proffer ways to tackle myriad of challenges facing various sectors and segments of the country,” he added.
