Be wary of new destructive culture – ANCISRO tells school children in Awka

outreach feature

The Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) has warned school children against the new culture that promote rudeness, nakedness, rituals and out of marriage sex.

The Managing Director of ANCISRO, Chuka Nnabuife, gave the warning when the office visited two schools in Awka in continuation of its Values Reorientation Outreach.

The schools include: Alexander College and Enzy Royale Secondary School, both located within the state capital.

Addressing the students, Nnabuife said the outreach was designed to educate the children on the dangers of the new culture that also promotes disrespect, and quick money, among other vices.

According to him, social media trends thrive on promoting these vices by making them appear like generally acceptable behaviors, whereas they are not.

He spoke on the general theme of the outreach, which is “The Deception of What You See and the Reality of What They Really Are.”

Nnabuife said, “Notwithstanding the many disadvantages of social media, there are many deceptions in them. Sadly, the deceptive content often becomes popular and trends.

Glamorizing fads

He identified some of these social media fads as glamorizing the use of hard drugs, celebrating the “baby mama” fad, promoting vanity, and the lavish display of inexplicable wealth, among others.

The ANCISRO MD urged the students to beware of such mind-manipulations because those fads lure young people out of their main goals in life.

“Plan your lives, work hard on your studies, and believe in God while avoiding crimes and going against the law.

The representative of the Foundation for Attitude Redirection (FAR), Emmanuel John, told the youngsters not to get involved in activities that could soil their image or taint their career paths, as that would scuttle their life’s mission.

He observed that the students are facing huge challenges in a world full of attractive distractions.

“However, those who persevere, study their subjects, and live in good character will ultimately succeed,” John encouraged them.

Representatives of the management of the two schools commended the ANCISRO initiative.

Noting that such programmes are rare in contemporary educational institutions, they asked for more of such visits by the office.

At the end of the visits, ANCISRO MD described the engagements with the school children as remarkable.

“It was a memorable day with warm-hearted and brilliant pupils in the two privately-owned schools.

“During our visit to the Anglican Mission-owned Alexander College during the morning assembly period, we observed a school where pupils still genuflect or bow to greet elders, even if they are strangers.

“The school was also the only institution where we encountered pupils who sat down comfortably with their notepads, during the customary morning muster.

“At Enzy Royale, owned by a private entrepreneur, we found a lively and free-communicating set of well-dressed pupils.

“Unlike their contemporaries in several earlier schools visited, they were never shy about expressing their opinions,” Nnabuife concluded.
