Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh has expressed concern over poor attendance to a 2-day workshop organized by the ministry for owners of Private Schools in the state.

The Commissioner said absence from such important engagement was a sign of unseriousness on the part of the Proprietors and Proprietress who were the targets of the training.

She wondered the message those absent from the meeting would be passing across to both their employees and pupils.

Chuma-Udeh warned that those concerned should consider their approval hanging.

The Commissioner said the seminar focuses on educational practices, issues and trends for maintenance of standard and quality assurance in schools.

“We gathered them to educate them on the essence and fundamental of running a school and being a proprietor.

“It is also to reawaken their consciousness on the dos and don’ts of setting up schools.,” she further explained.

According to her, the workshop is also to educate school owners about rules guiding establishment of private schools and education system.

“These are rules to which they must adhere. This is a routine refresher course.

The training focused on quality assurance, methodologies, the teacher-student relationship, students-society relationship, morals and ethics and adherence to curriculum.

“Today’s training is for Proprietors and Proprietress in Awka, Aguata and Nnewi Zones. Tomorrow is those from Onitsha, Otuocha and Ogidi zones.

“We’re expecting that after the workshop, they’ll be properly equiped with new, modern and progressive knowledge to move their schools forward,” Prof. Chuma-Udeh said.
