The 8th Anambra State House of Assembly says it has made laws that prioritize the interest of the people in the last two years.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, stated this in his office while addressing newsmen on the achievements of the Assembly since its inauguration two years ago.
According to him, the 8th Assembly has passed about 31 bills and over 70 motions and resolutions, all geared towards ensuring that the people benefit from their representation.
Mr Udeze explained that out of the laws made, 11 were Private Member Bills, confirming the doggedness of the present Assembly.
The Speaker reiterated that the collaboration between the Legislative and Executive arms was cordial and peaceful in the overall interest of the people.
He discharged the insinuations that the Legislative arm is a rubber stamp to the Executive noting that there was no need for disagreement where there is no misunderstanding and misgivings.
Mr Udeze, who represents Ogbaru constituency 2, said the law makers resolved that it was in the best interest of the people to collaborate with other arms of government rather than putting the state in disarray just to please the naysayers who believe that lawmakers work only when there is friction between them and members of the Executive.
The Speaker mentioned the laws made so far by the 8th Assembly to include: the Homeland Security Law, Electricity Law, Indegenous Medicine Law among others.
The laws he noted were all aimed at strengthening the activities of government and empowering the people democratically.
The 30-member 8th Assembly was inaugurated on the 12th of June 2023 for a four year term.
