Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, says Kenneth Oyeaka Rapuchukwu, who died after jumping from 3-storey building was not its student.

Rapuchukwu, a 28-year-old electrician from Aguleri, jumped from the Seat of Wisdom Lodge in Ifite-Awka after allegedly consuming an illicit substance.

In a statement signed by the Head, Information and Public Relations/Protocols, Mr Louis Njelita, the university insisted that the incident does not involve any of its students.

It dissociates the institution from the circumstances surrounding Mr. Rapuchukwu’s death.

The statement however reveals that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary.

Security agencies have also commenced thorough investigation it further states.

The statement says that the University’s Centre for Counselling and Career Development is well-equipped to address psychological health issues.

This include substance-related concerns, for both students and staff.

“This makes it unlikely that the victim was a Student of the university,” the statement says.

“The University Management kindly requests the public to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing investigation by the relevant agencies.

“We appreciate your understanding and co-operation during this time.”
