Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra state, Dr. Chioma Awuzie has reassured her commitment to quality education, community service, sports development and culture of excellence.
She said her aspiration is to rebuild trust, strengthen academic excellence, build infrastructure and restore the dignity and pride of the polytechnic.
Dr Awuzie disclosed this while addressing newsmen as part of activities marking her 100 days in office.
She disclosed 7% slash of school fees targeted at cushioning effects of hardship faced by parents and students.
The Rector said she also introduced 75% lecture attendance policy as prerequisite for both staff and students to teach, assess, or participate in examinations.
She said the policy was targeted at reinforcing seriousness of class participation and curb absenteeism.
Achievements recounted
According to her, “My administration hit the ground running immediately and has recorded many successes including the completion of the Skills Development Centre, Senator Barnabas Gemade Medical Centre at Ufuma Campus.
“My tenure has witnessed restoration of regular water supply in institution, and revitalization of the Polytechnic enterprises including water factory, bakery and confectionaries.
“We’ve also commissioned new projects such as the Staff Sport Club/Guest House, expanded and renovated Polytechnic Press, Medical Centre Ufuma Campus, security posts completed under my watch.
“My aspiration is to rebuild trust, strengthen academic excellence, build infrastructure and restore the dignity and pride of the polytechnic.”
Awuzie expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Governing Council for the call to serve.
Meanwhile, Anambra state government has assured the Polytechnic of its preparedness to support the institution towards its growth and development.
Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Don Onyenji gave the assurance.
He lauded Rector’s efforts in transforming the institution, including reactivation of polytechnic’s radio station, water factory, bakery and confectionaries.
Onyenji however noted that Awuzie’s feats was not a surprise, having known her for several years and what she could offer.
He advised her not to rest on her oars but to up her ante.
