Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor, has established pad banks in 300 schools across the state under her Healthy Living Initiative.
This is to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 celebrated every May 28.
She said the project aims to support girls whose education may be disrupted by menstrual emergencies.
Soludo emphasised the importance of accessible menstrual products.
She cited data showing that 37 million Nigerian women and girls rely on unhygienic alternatives due to cost.
She also lamented that most schools lack menstrual health education and proper disposal facilities.
She called for stronger campaigns and stakeholder collaboration to address these gaps, stressing that menstrual health is a right.
She urged students to confidently use the supplies and pledged her NGO’s commitment to restock the pad banks as needed.
