All Rights Foundation Africa organised voter education to ensure inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the Nov. 8 governorship election in Anambra.
Dr Jake Epelle Founder of TAF Africa, at the programme tagged – Able2Vote’, said there was the need for accessible polling units for PWDs.
“I commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Security operatives for their efforts .
“We thank Civil Society Organisations, community leaders and the media for being partners in progress.
“I called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to work with INEC to ensure provision of accessible polling units for PWD to participate in the election,” he said.
In his remarks, the Anambra State Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Mr Ugochukwu Okeke, thanked TAF Africa for the training.
Okeke also thanked INEC, Police, CSOs and the media for encouraging voter participation of their members.
On her part, the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Dr Queen-Elizabeth Agwu, said voting right is for everyone, irrespective of any form of physical disability.
According to her, it is enshrined in the constitution and Electoral Act.
