Benue State aims to export Information Communication and Technology (ICT) talents in the next ten years.
Also, the current administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia has formulated an ICT policy and given it the institutional frame work to operate effectively.
The Managing Director, Benue Digital Infrastructure Company, Terwase Gbande, disclosed this during a capacity building programme for principals and school coordinators.
The training focused on acquisition of artificial intelligence, coding, and digital skills.
Gbande explained that the creation of a ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, State Digital Service Management Enforcement Agency and State Digital Infrastructure Company were deliberate steps by Governor Hyacinth Alia towards ICT development.
He said the training aims to enhance digital literacy and skills among educators as well as promote innovation and quality education in the state.
The Managing Director tasked participants to develop mechanism that can transform the education system into a world class digital standard.
Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Fredrick Ikyaan, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to equipping learners with ICT skills to contribute to nation building.
He commended BDIC for the intervention towards ensuring that Benue children acquire requisite ICT skills to live in today’s world.
Commissioner for Communication and Digital Economy, Kwaghgba Amande, announced that the Benue State Government is to establish a Tech-Skills institution at the Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi to facilitate learning of Information and Communication Technology ICT.
Amande charged Benue youths particularly students to key into Artificial Intelligence to keep pace with the world.
Some of the principals who spoke on the occasion promised to step down the training in their areas.
They also appealed to the Government to provide the necessary infrastructure to support the initiative.
