Five senior officers Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra state have been suspended for absenting themselves from duty without permission.
The officers included Head of Local Government Administration, Heads of Department, Works, Agric, Environment as well as Council’s Internal Auditor.
Chairman, Anambra State Local Government Service Commission, Barr Vin-Ifeanyi Ezeaka disclosed this in a media briefing.
He said the officers were also suspended over inability to effectively manage the 100 staff of the council area.
Ezeaka explained that the suspension followed his On-the-Spot-Check and attendance monitoring exercise in Nnewi South on April 29, 2025.
“As at 11am, the suspended officers have not reported to work, and out of the total staff strength of 109 staff, only 24 workers were present at their duty posts,” he explained.
The Commission boss expressed worry over level of truancy and lateness in the system.
He urged workers to eschew poor attitude to work and be committed to their chosen career to justify their pay.
“I will not hesitate to wield the big stick on erring officers, going forward,” he added.
