The Imo State Police Command has demoted Sgt. Anayo Ekezie to Corporal for assaulting a middle-aged man with a smoke gunner.

This was seen in a viral video along Owerri–Aba Road.

Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye confirmed that Ekezie and two other officers, Insps. Ofem Obongha and Obinna Okereke, faced disciplinary action.

He said the officers who were in the Safer Highway Unit, faced disciplinary action following an orderly room trial.

Ekezie was found guilty and demoted, while the inspectors were severely reprimanded for failing to supervise properly.

Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma condemned the act.

Aboki reaffirmed the Force’s zero-tolerance for misconduct.

He urged the public to report abuses via the Complaints Response Unit or designated hotlines.
