Fans of activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), are celebrating his release after spending six days in EFCC custody.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested VDM over alleged cybercrime and money laundering.
In a viral video with his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, VDM denied the allegations, questioning how someone in debt could be accused of money laundering.
“How can EFCC accuse someone who is not wealthy of money laundering?
“I have done a lot of charity work, and they’re wondering where I get the money from, not knowing I’m running it on debt.
“Anyway, I’m out here with my lawyer—and you know what I stand for.
” I can never be locked up as long as my lawyer is by my side,” he said
Adeyanju later confirmed VDM’s bail, thanking supporters, public figures and the EFCC chairman for their roles.
VDM’s arrest sparked nationwide protests and online outcry under the hashtag #FreeVDM.
Many celebrities, including Davido, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and Cubana Chief Priest said VDM’s arrest was carried out like an “abduction”.
They therefore, demand his release.
